The date palm is native to Mesopotamia, the strip of land between the Tigris and the Euphrates. The Babylonians ennobled its cultivation and it began to spread throughout all Afro-Asian countries with a dry climate, from Morocco to Pakistan. Some Spanish missionaries introduced it to America, where it is still cultivated today, especially in California, Arizona, Texas and Baja California, Mexico.
